Westbourne Presbyterian Church
S McConnell & Sons carried out extensive natural stone restoration works at Westbourne Presbyterian Church on the Newtownards Road in Belfast, undertaking a major programme of masonry repairs and repointing over several months.
The works included extensive repointing on the front and side elevations of the church, together with the careful replacement of damaged and weathered stone. Specialist restoration was carried out to the tracery windows, including the replacement of jambs and other enriched historic architectural details. Significant stonework around the main entrance was also restored and replaced, including the decorative capitals, while sections of the plinths and string courses were carefully replaced.
Further restoration works were undertaken around the upper sections of the bell tower, with new stonework carefully integrated into the existing masonry. Our skilled stonemasons combined traditional masonry techniques with specialist stone replacement and architectural carving to preserve the character and detail of this historic Belfast church.
This project demonstrates S McConnell & Sons’ expertise in complex church restoration, traditional repointing, stone replacement and detailed architectural stonework across Northern Ireland.
