The new visitors' centre at the Giants' Causeway is an architectural masterpiece which McConnells were involved in from early stages. Using local Antrim Basalt, over 200 mullions were cut and installed - ranging in size from 0.2m to 7.0m in height. All were installed in a non-orthogonal manner - an unusual process whereby the stone is carefully placed at angles less or greater than 90˙.
Being mindful of keeping the carbon footprint as low as possible, McConnells installed two new saws at the local basalt quarry. This reduced the number of trips back to the workshop in Kilkeel.
